Bahamas Islands Online Travel Guide

Bahamas Destination Wedding Venues (New Providence and Paradise Island)

Hotels/Resorts:

An entire range of accommodation possibilities await couples in New Providence and Paradise Island, ranging from mega-resorts such as Atlantis (which alone contains 6 different hotel complexes) and Sandals to smaller and more exclusive luxury hotels. Many border the white sands of Cable Beach, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area, but others await you in various island locations – and should a larger hotel prove too much (or too pricey) for your tastes, condos and budget accommodations provide relief for your wallet. Whether you prefer an all-inclusive experience with tons of bars, lounges, and live entertainment, or simply want a home base to hold your things while you explore the island, you’re sure to find the perfect solution on one of these two gorgeous islands!

Booking a hotel near your venue of choice provides several automatic advantages for a Bahamas destination wedding – first and foremost, convenience. If you travel with a large wedding party, or with the elderly or young, you want to avoid trekking halfway across the island to reach your location. Hotels also frequently provide wedding packages and services to engaged couples, as well as a selection of spaces in which to hold the ceremony or reception. Wedding coordinators typically come as part of these services – they can help navigate the legalities of the island, as well as arrange any special details you might need. Anything, from an intimate ceremony for 2 to a blowout bash for 200, becomes possible with the help of an experienced resource! Take advantage of what the hotels offer, and enjoy a destination wedding celebration you’ll both remember for years to come.

New Providence

Graycliff

The ultimate indulgent experience awaits couples at the 5-star Graycliff Hotel, a centuries old mansion supposedly constructed in 1740. The hotel boasts a colorful and fascinating history that has left its mark on both the hotel décor and atmosphere. Graycliff saw the era of pirates in the Bahamas, survived through the Civil War, opened as a grand hotel and was sold as a private family home. Now open as a hotel once again, it’s 20 elegant antique-dotted rooms and surrounding grounds invite discriminating couples to come bask in the luxury of supreme comfort, history, fine dining, and fine cigars.

Those celebrating their weddings choose from 5 different wedding packages, starting with “Just Marry Me!” at $1,500 and ranging all the way up to “The Graycliff Wedding Celebration” starting at $26,000. For those who prefer to custom-design their own celebration, wedding coordinators wait to help plan your dream day. Graycliff offers just about any wedding service imaginable, from wedding cakes and ceremony music to fire dancers and calypso bands – and the hotel grounds provide plenty of room for your entire wedding party to celebrate with you, regardless of how large. After the day ends, prepare for a wonderful honeymoon right on the Graycliff grounds, conveniently located next to a white-sand beach. Relax and celebrate your special day at this top-notch Nassau hotel, an unforgettable experience in the lovely Bahamas!

Beaches:

The beautiful white-sand beaches of New Providence and Paradise Island have long been a staple of a Caribbean vacation, each with their own unique atmosphere to suit any traveler’s style. For couples planning a Bahamas destination wedding, the islands open up a world of possibilities in terms of stunning outdoor settings, ranging from convenient and glitzy hotel-lined shores to quiet and out-of-the-way beaches. While all the beaches of New Providence and Paradise Island technically remain open to the public up to the high tide mark, some locations prove tougher to access than others due to the proximity of hotels. If your beach of choice does not contain a public access point, book a stay at a nearby hotel property to make your life easier – some hotels also offer a “day-pass” option, which gives visitors full use of their chairs, sandy beach, restrooms, restaurants, and so on.

For couples that prefer convenience and proximity to facilities, beautiful Cable Beach on the island of New Providence may become the highlight. Its white sand shores and border of condos, restaurants, luxury hotels, and casinos ensure that couples anticipate their wedding day in comfort, and that every amenity lies easily within reach. Cable Beach, along with many of the other major beaches, lies along the north coast of New Providence, where the shores remain flat, calm, and ideal for swimming and snorkeling. While much of New Providence is developed, quieter, out-of-the-way beaches such as Adelaide and Caves Beach provide a welcome respite for those who want a ceremony away from the crowds. Although not geographically located in the Caribbean, the Bahamas contain the signature white sand and azure waters of a tropical island, creating a range of stunning locations for any Bahamas destination wedding!

To the north of New Providence lies Paradise Island, the home of the famed Atlantis Resort. These beaches see high demand for wedding ceremonies due to their pristine conditions and quieter surroundings, and contain visitors from all across the Bahamas as well as local hotel traffic. Discuss the perfect surrounding to reflect your personalities, and then find your beach setting right in the Bahamas – a breathtaking location for any destination wedding!

New Providence

Cable Beach

Couples who prefer a beautiful location with a high level of accessibility and convenience may want to consider Cable Beach, a popular 4 mile stretch along the island’s northern coast. A hotspot for New Providence resorts, bars, and restaurants, checking into a hotel with beachfront access makes everyone’s life a bit easier, particularly if you’re traveling with a larger wedding party. The beach itself contains white sand and calm blue waters, perfect for swimming, splashing, and water sports. Because of its proximity to the hotels and other attractions, this beach remains high-activity and may become somewhat crowded. Resorts often contain their own private areas for ceremonies, so consider booking a hotel room and taking advantage of their services! Otherwise, you may want to consider a morning ceremony to avoid the worst of the crowds.

Goodman’s Bay

An eastern extension of Cable Beach, Goodman’s Bay draws visitors for its water sports and calm, traditionally Caribbean appearance. Soft white-sand beaches and turquoise waters make a beautiful backdrop for a destination wedding ceremony, and a nearby playground caters to any young ones that might accompany you. Check into one of the nearby hotels for the best beach access and use of facilities, as this beach contains no public ones.

Western Esplanade (Junkanoo Beach)

Junkanoo Beach lies along the island’s northern coast, popular with both local inhabitants and tourists for its calm, shallow waters, long stretch of white sand, and proximity to the city of Nassau. A public beach, Junkanoo contains convenient changing facilities and restrooms, ideal for the destination wedding party – although it’s highly beneficial for everyone to simply check into one of the close by Nassau hotels. Although you may experience a few crowds that come for a variety of reasons – local celebrations, cruise ship tourists, and so on– Junkanoo Beach retains a fun atmosphere and a beautiful setting for any Bahamas destination wedding. Exchange vows in front of the brilliant blue water against a background of sailing ships and gentle waves, all easily accessible and only moments from the city!

Orange Hills Beach

To the west of Cable Beach lies Orange Hills, a quiet and un-crowded public beach ideal for couples who want to escape the throngs of tourists and the glitz and glamour of Cable Beach. About ½ a mile long with soft white sand, calm waters great for snorkeling, and a laidback, relaxing atmosphere, Orange Hills makes a great spot for exchanging vows with the beautiful ocean as your background. The Orange Hill Beach Inn rests close to the shore, but this beach contains few other facilities. Come prepared with any supplies you may need for your destination wedding ceremony!

Adelaide Beach

Mostly frequented by locals, Adelaide Beach remains a haven from some of the more touristy, crowded beaches in New Providence. The small community of Adelaide Village, tranquil and traditional, rests near one of the longest strips of soft white sand in New Providence. Bordered by warm crystal-clear waters and free from crowds (particularly on weekdays), Adelaide Beach might provide the ideal setting for couples who prefer a bit more privacy. While the beach remains accessible to the public, it also sits further out of the way than many of the more popular choices, so consider the needs and size of your wedding party before committing. A bar provides refreshment, and a few cottages sit nearby, but Adelaide otherwise contains little in the way of facilities.

Saunders Beach

An easily accessible location, Saunders sits to the east of popular Cable Beach, and typically remains a little quieter and more popular with the locals, although plenty of tourists head here to take advantage of the great swimming and picturesque beauty. Saunders Beach sits right off of West Bay Road, which makes it ideal for accessibility, but may mean a bit more noise during your ceremony. Recent renovations by the government have included replacing the border of casuarina trees with seagrape, and installing public facilities including toilets, showers, and a playground. A few food and drink vendors await you on the sand, perfect for a bit of refreshment after your ceremony.

Caves Beach

Another quiet and secluded destination wedding location, Caves Beach sits a bit further from the city of Nassau (about 7 miles) and therefore avoids the worst of the tourist traffic. The beach offers no facilities, just beautiful scenery with soft white sand and inviting, warm blue water with excellent snorkeling, perfect for a return honeymoon trip! Come prepared with any supplies you might need, and take into account the size of your wedding party before considering this destination wedding location.

Paradise Island

Cabbage Beach

Vibrant shades of blue water border pale, soft white sugar-sand in this visually stunning location, perhaps one of the prettiest in New Providence or Paradise Island. With the beauty come the crowds, so those planning destination wedding ceremonies should plan accordingly. Conveniently located near several hotels and restaurants, this shore maintains a balance of development and natural beauty, particularly towards the eastern end where the buildings run out. A border of casaurina trees and seagrape provide shade, welcome to those who come for the water sports and the swimming. For public access, head to the entrance near the RIU hotel, but checking into a nearby hotel can save quite a bit of hassle!

Paradise Beach

If you plan on holding your destination wedding ceremony on Paradise Beach, strongly consider booking a stay at the Atlantis Cove Resort to make your life a bit easier. Although all beaches in the Bahamas technically remain public up to the high water mark, Paradise Beach remains fairly exclusive in all other respects – it proves difficult to simply drop by for a day. Should you choose this beach, however, prepare for one of the prettiest backdrops in Paradise or New Providence Island, with glittering white sand and tranquil warm waters. Close proximity to the Atlantis Resort means nightlife, fine dining, and convenient facilities rest close by, although no public ones await visitors. Families come to enjoy the ideal swimming conditions, and you may encounter some other people during your ceremony – but for the most part, this beach stays fairly calm. If you prefer not to book a stay at the Atlantis Resort, nearby Cabbage Beach offers equally beautiful surroundings along with a public access point.

Villas:

For a unique alternative to the typical hotel wedding, consider booking a New Providence or Paradise Island villa for your Bahamas destination wedding. Found on some of the most stunning beaches on the two islands, including popular Cable Beach, couples can choose a location as close or as removed from the crowds, high-rise hotels and casinos as they would like. Villas eliminate the hassle of crowds and lines from your Bahamas destination wedding experience – with your own private residence, the affair remains strictly limited to the presence of your closet family and friends. Hire a wedding planner to help coordinate any staff you might need, and hold the wedding and reception in the same convenient location – on the lovely beaches, near your pool, or perhaps on a private deck or patio area. Some villas can hold up to 10 people or even more and come fully staffed, while others remain quaint and just large enough for the couple – the choice and the style of your wedding remains entirely up to you! After the events wind down, enjoy your honeymoon in a prime location without setting a foot outside your front lawn. For those who prefer extra privacy, room to spread out, and an area to call their own, a Bahamas villa may create the perfect destination wedding experience for you!

Other Venues:

Nassau Botanical Gardens

A stunning display of wandering stone paths, terraces, a beautiful grotto, dramatic stairways and a waterfall fountain compose this 18-acre park, located near the Ardastra Gardens and Zoo of New Providence. Littered with over 600 species of lush plant life and beautiful flowers, the Nassau Botanical Gardens features plenty of room for all your guests to wander and enjoy the scenery, relax on a shady bench, or learn about native Bahamian species with the helpfully labeled signs. Once a rock quarry, the gardens opened in 1973 as a retreat from hectic society, and are still frequented by visitors and locals alike. Enter through the dramatic stone archway and exchange vows at any one of the lovely spots, with plenty of large spaces available for tents or bigger wedding parties.

Versailles Garden and Cloister

For a unique and visually stunning destination wedding location, consider the Versailles Garden and Cloister, a lovely and less-frequented corner of New Providence. Owned by the One&Only Beach Club Hotel, the gardens remain free for anyone on the island to come and enjoy. Locate the inconspicuous entrance, and walk up the series of rising grass and stone terraces filled with flowers and stone sculptures. Constructed in the style of a formal garden, plenty of hidden corners and lovely touches, such as a pool with colorful water lilies, add to the ambiance of the area. At the other end lies a roofless cloister, originally constructed by Augustinian monks in the 14th century and later transported to the Bahamas. Marry amidst the graceful stone columns and arches, or head to the nearby wedding gazebo with sweeping views of the Nassau Harbor. When the sun sets, these spots transcend from beautiful to simply breathtaking – if you choose to hold your ceremony elsewhere, make sure to return for a romantic stroll during your Bahamas honeymoon.
